Voters to get their say in recall primaries Tuesday
Tuesday's primaries in six state Senate districts are anything but typical.
They're happening in July, when voters are more focused on the pool than on politics. And they feature an unprecedented cast of characters - six genuine Democrats who hope to unseat Republicans next month, and six GOP-affiliated fake Democrats who hope to keep the Republicans in office.
Voters may have trouble sorting out who is a legitimate Democrat. And they might not even know when to vote because of the various election dates. There are Democratic primaries Tuesday in six races; the following week in other districts there are two Republican primaries and one general election.
Other general elections will be Aug. 9 and Aug. 16.
On Tuesday, the fake Democrats are not expected to win, so the day will mark the beginning of the real campaign, rather than the end of a hard-fought primary race.
"I'm basically running twice in a month against the same person," said Shelly Moore, a Democrat running against Sen. Sheila Harsdorf (R-River Falls).
